THE ECOFABULOUS HOME
At the 2008 show, the Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association addressed the increasing interest in green building by partnering with Architecton/Shelter Industries to present the EcoFabulous Home -- an environmentally friendly, energy efficent modular home.
The 1,400 sq. ft. v-shaped home addressed the growing interest in preserving environmental resources by using reclaimed, recycled and sustainable materials and products. Energy-efficient appliances and windows, smart wiring and recycled materials mitigate the effect of the home’s eco-footprint. A clever combination of cedar-and-steel cladding complemented a custom-fabricated roof. Modular construction in the factory further increases construction efficiency, with the interior never being exposed to weather, thereby preserving the integrity of kiln-dried wood.
The kitchen/great room wing and bedroom wing, linked at the main entry and by the courtyard deck, provided multiple accesses to the deck – a seamless integration of indoor/outdoor living environments. The easy-living decks included a covered spa and potential for ample seating configurations. The surrounding landscape featured drought-resistant grasses and plants, thus conserving water.

The 1,300 sq. ft. exhibit showcased before-and-after photos of members' renovation projects as well as other renovation-related products and services. Renovators, interior designers and decorators, and suppliers were on-site to answer renovation questions.
