Six-Storey Wood-Frame Construction Seminar

In response to recent changes to the BC Building Code, which now allows mid-rise wood-frame construction, the GVHBA Academy of Housing presented Six-Storey Wood-Frame Construction.
This three-hour seminar featured three industry experts who examined different aspects of this type of construction, from technical design to community relations.

Presentation: Wood-based Systems in Mid-rise Construction.
In this presentation, design aspects of mid-rise wood-frame construction were discussed along with a high-capacity, shear-wall concept, used in NEESWood full-scale, six-storey tests. Examples of heavy timber beam-and-column systems and cross-laminated timber were also presented.

Wood WORKS! BC produced an 18-minute video specifically for the design community, illuminating key methodologies of mid-rise construction using on-site footage in Washington state, where mid-rise construction has been allowed for more than six years.
